Sweet Addison and her family came to see me at my Brandon, MS studio recently and I enjoyed visiting with them so much and creating the setups to make her mommy’s newborn photography dreams come true was a lot fun! Read their story below and get to know the family behind the photos.

How did Mom & Dad meet? Carmsicia and I meet December 19, 2019 at a Christmas Party my cousin and I hosted. Carmsicia was invited by a mutual friend, while at the party we talked all night and before the night ended we exchanged numbers.

How did you tell family and friends you were expecting? We told family we were expecting on Thanksgiving Day 2023. I wore a shirt to dinner and it said “One more reason to be Thankful,”. It had baby footprints on the belly. My family was so excited and happy they had to read it more than once!

What was the best, most surprising or most difficult thing being pregnant? The most surprising thing was finding out we were expecting a baby. My Husband and I have worked with children in different capacities and was always seen as Aunt, Uncle, Mentor so we never thought being parents would be in our future. The Lord blessed us with our baby girl, but the surprising thing was I never experienced the “pregnancy symptoms” like morning sickness or cravings. I worked up until 37 weeks and baby girl came at the end of week 38.

Did you find out the gender beforehand? What were both Mom and Dad’s reactions? We found out the gender beforehand with family and friends, we didn’t know we were having a gender reveal until we showed up at the restaurant and our mom had everyone there with the cake.

List the possible baby names, and how you narrowed it down? We were set on the name Addison Presley if it was a girl. The name Addison is associated with strength, leadership, and authority. Her middle name Presley comes from an Aunts middle name who passed away, but always said that we would have a beautiful baby girl one day. We wanted to honor her legacy and how much she meant to us.

How did baby prep go? Baby Prep in the Ruffld household was not a one person task. We had our close friends and family over and had an impromtu nesting party here and there until everything was finally put together and ready to go for baby girl.

Was labor and delivery what you expected? Labor and delivery was not what we expected because we prepared for natural birth only for things to take a turn and Mom had to get an emergency C-Section. It all happened so fast but the number one priority was making sure baby girl was safe and she was.

Did baby look a lot like Mom, Dad or other siblings? Baby Addison looked a lot like Mom and neither Daddy or Mommy disagreed with that after comparing the baby photos.

What were Mom’s first thoughts when she saw her baby? And Dad? Mom’s thought when she first saw her baby was look at my blessing a heart full of gratitude and thankfulness. Dad’s first thought was he couldn’t believe he was holding such a miracle.

What have the first few weeks at home with baby been like? The first weeks at home were hard and beautiful! We embarked on a new journey that made us tired sometimes and wonder if we were going to be good parents and were we doing everything right but it was also a new chapter that brought us so much laughter, joy, patience, and a reminder of God’s faithfulness, gives you. The Lord blessed us with our daughter Addison at the perfect time in our marriage because we’ve grown and continue to grow each day as a family.

Our baby’s newborn session with Destiny was so nice, the attention and care she gave our newborn during the session was wonderful. She was very warm and inviting from the time we walked in until we left. She made Addison so comfortable and she only woke up for a minute and was swaddled right back to sleep. The photos and the vision I had for them was more than I imagined.
