Where are you located?
I am a newborn, maternity, and family photographer in Brandon, Mississippi, a part of the Jackson, MS metro area! My 1500 sq ft indoor studio is at 141 West Government Street in Brandon, MS.
Where are your family photography sessions?
Family photography sessions happen outdoors, near the studio in downtown Brandon, MS. I also love shooting on-location! Especially with older kiddos, they would rather be "on their turf" where they feel comfortable. Most of my sessions are within a 30-mile radius of Brandon, MS. Great locations for outdoor family photography sessions include:
Your favorite park or picnic area;
Orchards;
Hayfields;
A big backyard; or
A hiking destination with a view.
I typically scout out the perfect outdoor family photo location within two weeks of your session date, unless you have one in mind! Condition locations change based on the weather forecast (and if a field gets bush hogged)!
How would you describe your photography style?
Timeless, classic, and natural. I truly love capturing real personalities and emotions. Personality doesn't shine in stuffy atmospheres. My sessions are fun, relaxed, and laid-back! Your photos will be full of genuine smiles, and you'll be able to "hear" those giggles in each photo.
Do you use flash photography?
If you schedule a studio photography experience, the only way to avoid shadows and other unwanted ambient lighting is to use a flash. Studio photo sessions enjoy controlled temperature, noise, and lighting in an ample 1500 sq ft environment.
Our family and some maternity sessions are outdoor, on-location within 30-miles of the downtown Brandon studio. These are natural light photography experiences; no light required.
How long will it take to receive our images?
Two (2) weeks after your maternity, newborn, or family photo session, you’ll be invited back to the studio for an exclusive viewing and ordering consultation. Here, you’ll view your stunning photos for the first time on a high-resolution slideshow. Together, we will choose favorites, make minor edits or adjustments, and order canvases, prints, or custom photo albums. The final product arrives at your home approximately 2 weeks later.
What if I'm not photogenic?
You'd never imagine how many people say this before having their family photos taken. Just about everyone I've met has said the same thing, but guess what: you're more photogenic than you think! Relax, you're in great hands! I have tips and tricks to help you look (and feel) your best! We'll have a lot of fun, and fun means lots of great natural smiles!
What should I wear?
Although my first instinct is to say, "whatever you feel comfortable in;" that isn't always the case! Specific colors and patterns don't photograph as well as others. Don't worry; I send out a client prep guide before every session, which includes everything you need to know before your arrival - including what to wear! But, as always, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
What happens if the weather is terrible for our outdoor family photos?
Clouds don’t necessarily mean you can’t take great photos! Did you know that clouds act as a natural light diffuser, which actually makes for fantastic photos? But, no one likes to be rained out (unless you’re one for dancing in the rain). We all know the Mississippi weather doesn’t always cooperate, so I do try to keep bad weather make-up days on the schedule. If the weather gets bad, we reschedule to another mutually agreeable date!
What if my kids don't cooperate?
Flipping through the family portfolio, you see countless beautiful smiles, but that doesn't mean they started that way! I absolutely love working with kids and babies, because I get to play all day. When you approach the session as a fun, relaxed, and playful event, little ones relax. Years from now, you'll love those big crocodile tears as much as the playful laughter we catch a few minutes later.
Is there anything we can do to make the session go smoother?
Yes, absolutely! RELAX! Babies and children pick up on your vibes, good or bad. I know, it isn't very easy to relax before getting essential family photos. Still, relaxing will help them turn out so much better, and the experience will be fun for the whole family (and they won't be as worried about it next year)!
