Your new adorable little bundle has arrived! Now it’s time to capture those newborn photos before your little one starts growing and changing the way they do during those first few weeks. If you want those swoon-worthy snuggled-up poses, you’ll need to act fast! Most expectant mothers schedule their newborn photoshoot months before ever meeting their new blessing to guarantee a spot in their photographer’s schedule at that perfect time frame between five and twelve days old! Already have an appointment scheduled with your Mississippi newborn photographer? Great! Let’s discuss how you can prepare for your upcoming newborn photoshoot:
A great photoshoot is the result of careful planning and consideration. Yet, we all know that newborns are as unpredictable as they are darling. Take note of any developing routine during the first few days, no matter how small. Tracking your baby’s natural sleep-wake cycle can help you determine the best time of day to photograph your infant. It is also helpful to plan around their feedings as best as you can. I know, those first days are rough ones trying to set their pattern – but if there is one developing, let’s use it to our advantage!
This tip may sound counterintuitive, but try to keep your infant awake for an hour or two before your pictures. That means, no sleeping on the car ride either! (Obviously, within reason, of course!) If you’re craving those angelic sleeping baby poses, this may be a game-changer for you! Once you arrive in the quiet and warm studio, you’ll have all the time you need to feed and soothe your bundle of joy until they’re content and sleepy with a full belly for your pictures.
Do you have an heirloom outfit that has been passed down for generations? Consider bringing it along with you to your newborn photography session! But don’t worry if you don’t have anything like that. I have all the props, wraps, and supplies you need already washed, sterilized, and ready-to-go when you arrive at the studio. Do you have a specific look in mind? Let’s discuss it when we book your session! Don’t worry about the temperature of the studio, either! The studio is kept at an ideal temperature for brand new babies that can’t fully regulate their body temperature yet!
When planning your shoot, let’s talk about what style of a newborn photoshoot you want. A few ideas to consider:
When you’re getting things ready, it is helpful to remember an extra pacifier, baby’s lovey, and maybe some special snacks for older siblings (patiently waiting for the perfect pose for their new sibling). Don’t forget to bring along a change of clothes for EVERYONE that will be in the photo session, because something could wind up on your outfit!
Those first weeks are exhausting, whether it’s your first or your fifth baby welcomed to the family! Be careful not to overtax yourself. Feel free to communicate with your newborn photographer if you need a minute to freshen up (or if your pain levels have risen if you’re recovering from a hard birth or c-section). Leave a window of time after your shoot open, so you don’t feel in a hurry or have to rush off to your next appointment. Your newborn photos should be calm, relaxed, and never rushed!
These precious photos of your new little one will be pictures you look at for years to come! You’ll hang them on your wall and show them to friends and family when they visit. My favorite part? You’ll likely tell them all about the experience! My goal as your Brandon, MS newborn photographer, is to make the experience just as fun, enjoyable, and memorable as the photos themselves!
