How did Mom & Dad meet?
We met on the night of my Junior prom in 2001. After prom, my girlfriends and I went out to eat at El Charro in Richland and he was my waiter. I thought he was soooo cute and that’s when my quest began. I guess you could say I began chasing after him and he wasn’t interested in me in the beginning, but he eventually seen he was not getting rid of me and fell for me, too.
How did you tell family and friends you were expecting?
We were trying to conceive, so to tell Juan, I just showed him the positive test and his face lit up. We already have a little girl so he was really excited to find out that this baby would be a boy.  Juan and I actually wanted to do something fun to let everybody else know but I couldn’t wait to tell my mom because all she has is granddaughters. I knew she would be so excited that this could be a boy. And after I told her, she let everybody know very quickly!
What was the best, most surprising or most difficult thing being pregnant? ( Dad can answer, too)
I had alot more energy this pregnancy. I was in a way better mood as well. With my first pregnancy I had morning sickness up until the day I gave birth, but with this one I only had it until the last 2 or 3 months so that was better too. The worst part was the day I went in for the glucose test and my sugar was over 200 and had to go on a diabetic diet. It was so hard watching everybody else eat what I wanted, but the best part of that was that I didn’t gain much weight .
Did you find out the gender beforehand? What were both Mom and Dad’s reactions?
Juan and our daughter, Gypsy and I went in for the anatomy scan and when she got to looking at his gender we all closed our eyes. She wrote the gender on his sonogram and sealed it in an envelope for us to open at our gender reveal. Everybody was eager to learn his gender before the reveal and wanted me to peek in the envelope but I was too scared to look and it be a girl and then feel disappointed so I was happy to wait as long as possible. At the reveal, I had a friend take the envelope and fill a black glass ornament with the correct color glitter and then she brought it out for my daughter and neice to throw down and break. When I saw that blue I had tears of joy running down my face, I was so excited. Juan was grinning ear to ear, hands raised in air and hollered “yeeesssss”.

List the possible baby names, and how you narrowed it down?
No question about his first name, I have had that name picked out since I was a teenager and thankfully Juan liked the name too. His middle name was a little tough to pick out though. Because Juan is Mexican, I wanted him to have a spanish middle name and there wasn’t many spanish names I liked. We eventually narrowed it down to Roman and Gael. Juan’s mother was very ill at the time and was was very likely not going to make it for his arrival, so we let her choose between the names. Unfortunately, she did not get to see him before she passed but she did pick his name, Gael. That is pronounced Guy-el.
Did baby look a lot like Mom, Dad or other siblings? Did you have fun with comparing baby photos?
Navy looked just like his daddy.
What were Mom’s first thoughts when she saw her baby? And Dad?
We were both so in love! Big sister was a little nervous about him, but was excited.
What have the first few weeks at home with baby been like?
The first few weeks were a challenge. It took awhile for all of us including grandma to not get sprayed everytime we changed him. For awhile there we were going throught 6 outfits a day but either we are doing a better job at it or Navy got tired of spraying himself in the face. Big sister was a great help the first 2 weeks running and doing everything I asked with such enthusiasm but that has passed. He sleeps great at night and screams almost all day, so we are all a little tired.
You can even write a little bit about your baby’s newborn session if you’d like.
Our photo session went so much better than I ever imagined, especially since he has colic and reflux and cries alot. I was really expecting a disaster, but you are amazing and did such a great job soothing our fussy little guy. You even did great at getting a smile out of Gypsy and convincing me to jump in for a shot with my babies even though I was totally not fixed up for a picture. The funniest part of the day was Gypsy’s face when Navy peed on her and she opened her mouth in shock and said “really?” and we were all like “no don’t throw the baby” cause we all knew she was getting ready to push him off her. ha
